Understairs Storage and Replacement Balustrade in Tamworth
The Challenges
The property is rich in period charm, with original features that set the tone for the entire home. The challenge lay in introducing new cabinetry that felt sympathetic to this character - striking a balance between timeless elegance and fresh functionality.
As with many of our projects, a key challenge was creating enough hidden, organised storage. This home was no exception - the clients needed a solution that offered order and practicality, but without overwhelming the space or detracting from its beautiful features.
The existing balustrade felt tired and dated, no longer complementing the wider décor. The challenge was to reimagine it in a way that elevated the overall aesthetic, offering refinement and flow without feeling overly new or at odds with the home’s character.
The Successes
To echo the home’s original craftsmanship, we designed bespoke shaker-style fronts, carefully tailored to complement the existing panelling. This created a sense of continuity, ensuring the new cabinetry felt as though it had always belonged.
A full understairs storage solution was introduced, while the existing cupboard was retained and elevated with cabinetry that flowed naturally from our design. The result was an elegant balance of practicality and style, maximising function without compromising on charm.
The balustrade was reimagined in a warm oak veneer, paired with distinctive twisted oak spindles. This detail brought a subtle modernity while remaining true to the home’s character, creating a feature that feels both timeless and quietly striking.
